The musicians of
Quartet Sabaku (www.QuartetSabaku.com) are also members
of the Phoenix Symphony and Arizona Opera Orchestra.
With their energetic and lively style they have
delighted community and school audiences across Arizona
for the last ten years. As part of a cultural exchange
between the states of Arizona and Sinaloa, Mexico they
were sent to the Festival de las Artes in October, 2000.
Members of the Quartet have extensive backgrounds in
chamber music, symphony playing, university teaching,
traditional string pedagogy and Suzuki teaching. Quartet
Sabaku members are the resident instructors at the West
Valley Chamber Music Camp. Quartet Sabaku has been on
the Artists Roster of the Arizona Commission on the Arts
since 1999. Quartet Sabaku is comprised of
Cynthia Baker (1st violin),
Leslie Froeb Turner (2nd violin),
Katherine Black Shields (viola) and
Frederick Chao (cello).
Laura Tagawa will be
substituting for Frederick Chao in leading the String
Academy.
