Maria Vomlehn
Flurry (www.MariaFlurry.com) is an experienced
orchestral percussionist, timpanist, and music educator.
She is principal percussionist for the Flagstaff
Symphony. She has performed with many orchestras around
the country, including Baltimore, Detroit, Baltimore
Chamber, Michigan Opera Theater, and the Phoenix
Symphony. She was a member of the Flint Symphony
Orchestra for 15 years. Maria Flurry has backed up such
artists as Kenny Loggins, Ray Charles, and Mannheim
Steamroller. She received a standing ovation for her
performance of the Water Concerto for Water
Percussion and Orchestra composed by Tan Dun, and
her Spokane Symphony performance of the same concerto
was reviewed as "Brilliant."
Maria has launched a multi-year commissioning project to
create concert music that explores the bridge between world
music and classical orchestral music. In the 2007 Chaparral
MusicFest New Music Arizona
Concert, she performed Canto de Alba, a
concerto by Kenneth LaFave - the first of these
commissioned works.
Maria is a roster artist of the Arizona Commission on the
Arts and an Artist Endorser for Black Swamp
Percussion.
