Maria Vomlehn Flurry
Leading the
Percussion Academy
Maria Vomlehn Flurry is an
experienced orchestral percussionist, timpanist, and
music educator. She is principal percussionist for the
Flagstaff Symphony. She has performed with many
orchestras around the country, including Baltimore,
Detroit, Baltimore Chamber, Michigan Opera Theater, and
the Phoenix Symphony. She was a member of the Flint
Symphony Orchestra for 15 years. Maria Flurry has backed
up such artists as Kenny Loggins, Ray Charles, and
Mannheim Steamroller. She received a standing ovation
for her performance of the
Water Concerto for Water
Percussion and Orchestra composed by Tan Dun, and
her Spokane Symphony performance of the same concerto
was reviewed as "Brilliant."
Maria has launched a multi-year commissioning project to
create concert music that explores the bridge between world
music and classical orchestral music. In the 2007 Chaparral
MusicFest
New Music Arizona
Concert, she performed
Canto de Alba, a
concerto by Kenneth LaFave - the first of these
commissioned works.
Maria is a roster artist of the Arizona Commission on the
Arts and an Artist Endorser for
Black Swamp
Percussion.
